While staying at our accommodation, you’ll have the chance to experience some of the area’s most iconic and festive celebrations.
- Patron Saint Festivities in Honor of the Virgen del Rosario, Terque (First Sunday in October): These festivities, also known as the “Fiesta del Voto,” are dedicated to the Virgen del Rosario, a deeply revered and beloved devotion among the people of Terque. The celebration includes a variety of religious, recreational, and cultural activities. With grateful hearts, the town commemorates a vow made by its parishioners 137 years ago, expressing their gratitude to the Virgin Mary for saving them from the cholera outbreak nearly a century and a half ago. This tradition has been faithfully passed down through generations.
- Annual Day of Revival of Traditional Trades, Terque (2nd Sunday in October): Since 2003, this event has been organized in conjunction with the Patron Saint Festivities in honor of the Virgen del Rosario. The goal of the event is to revive the trades that were once a part of daily life in Almería but have nearly disappeared or are now practiced only occasionally and by a few. The focus of the day is on trades related to the local vine-growing culture, such as barrel making, mule driving, and grape harvesting. Each year, other long-standing trades are also showcased, including the barber, potter, town crier, ballad-singing blind man, esparto weavers, lace makers, and a tin worker, among others. These cultural events have become a major tourist attraction over the past several years, thanks to the active involvement of the people of Terque, who participate enthusiastically in demonstrating these traditional trades.
- Fiestas de la Santa Cruz, Terque (First Sunday in May): During this celebration, the entire town gathers at the Cerro de la Cruz, where a mass is held, followed by a grand feast. The event is organized by the ancient “Mayordomos de la Cruz” brotherhood. On the eve of the festival, a lively evening dance takes place to “watch over the Cross” until the following day, when the Cross is carried in procession to the chapel bearing the same name. Early in the morning, the Eucharist is celebrated, and traditional roscos and roscas (round bread rings) are blessed and later distributed throughout the town.
- San Isidro, Terque (May 15): Terque celebrates the feast of San Isidro Labrador with great devotion, surrounded by the vibrant colors of spring. The saint is carried in procession to the Celindos viewpoint, where the day is marked with festivities organized by his brotherhood. The town comes alive with the spirit of celebration, honoring the patron saint of farmers.
- Summer Festivities, Terque (First Weekend of August): Revived from the past, these festivities are dedicated to the town’s patron, Santiago Apóstol. In recent years, the celebration has grown in popularity, partly due to the favorable timing in mid-summer. Leading up to the main event, a Cultural Week is organized, offering a wide variety of leisure and entertainment options for both locals and visitors. This blend of tradition and fun makes it a highlight of the summer in Terque.
